Chicago
I had to travel to Chicago for 3 days on business. I was planning on racing on the weekend and then taking a little time off for recovery, but the race got canceled due to snow. So I did 2 hours on the trainer instead. The first night at the hotel I did 90 minutes on the stationary trainer while watching ‘Friends’ re-runs. Not sure which was worse, the trainer or the TV. The trainer had a broken seat, too.
The next day I did a hotel triathlon – 30 minute swim in the pool (I suck at swimming), followed by more time on the trainer, then a run on the treadmill. That night I ran another 30 minutes on the treadmill, and did another hour on the trainer in the morning. Gotta love business travel!
So I tried an ice bath
It will probably be my first, and my last. The theory is that if you immerse your legs in ice water for 15 minutes or so, it will cause your blood vessels to contract (duh – something fierce!). Well, the benefit comes when you get out and the blood vessels relax causing a flushing of the toxins and lactic acid that has built up over several days of hard training. Nice theory.
I have to say, it did feel REALLY good after it was over, but I didn’t notice much difference on the bike. Oh, well.
Grandma and Grandpa visit
Everything (school, work, weather) finally lined up so my parents could come spend a few days with us. The kids were soooo excited. We had a great time doing lots of catching up and shopping at the malls. Who wouldn’t want to be welcomed like this?
